Songs Encouraging Obedience

Ephesians 6:1

(Tune: This Little Light of Mine)

Children, obey your parents in the Lord.

For this is right.  Ephesians 6 verse 1.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord.

For this is right. This is right. This is right.

I'll Obey My Parents

(Tune:  Jesus Loves Me)

By the grace of God, I'll obey my parents.

As soon as I hear them, I'll obey my parents.

Jesus will help me obey. Jesus will help me obey.

Jesus will help me obey and eat from the tree of life.

Jesus Will Help Me Obey

(Tune: Rejoice in the Lord Always)

Jesus will help me obey my parents-quickly and quietly. (3 times)

Jesus will help me obey my parents.

Obey the Voice of Your Parents (based upon Jeremiah 7:23)

(Tune:  Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee)

Children obey the voice of your parents - that it may be well with you.

Children obey the voice of your parents - that it may be well with you.

When your parents say, "Come here or sit down, be quiet, be a helper." You should obey.

When you hear the voice of your parents, obey quickly and quietly.

Obey Your Parents

(Tune: Father Abraham)

The Bible says, obey your parents. (3 times)

For this is right in the Lord.

When my parents tell me something to do. (3 times)

The correct response is YES.

Jesus will help me obey my parents. (3 times)

Jesus will help me obey at all times.

Daniel (adapted from song by P.P. Bliss)

1. Daniel purposed in his heart to obey God's commands.

He chose a simple diet, and said no to the king's meat and wine.

Chorus

2. God gave Daniel knowledge, skill and wisdom.

And Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

Chorus

3. Daniel chose to obey God and you can choose the same.

Through obedience and helpfulness, you'll bring glory to God's name.

Chorus

CHORUS: Dare to be a Daniel. Dare to stand alone.

Dare to have a purpose firm. Dare to make it known.

A Note from Anika:

I wrote these songs in the summer of 2009 while we were serving as missionaries in South Korea.  I wanted Samuel to be like Jesus and increase in wisdom, stature, in favour with God and man (Luke 2:52), but I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with my responsibilities as a Christian mother.  There were so many lessons I wanted to teach him, but I didn't really know where to begin.  I wanted him to be a helper, come when I called him, be thankful, choose good over evil, keep his things and clothes neat and tidy, use his words instead of crying, etc.

As I looked to the Lord for answers, I began claiming one of my favorite Bible verses, Jeremiah 33:3 which says, "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."  After praying one morning, I felt impressed to pick up a book called Child Guidance.  As I skimmed through the table of contents the title of section four caught my attention -"OBEDIENCE, THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON". Praise the LORD!  What an answer to prayer.  I decided to reread this section, and the Lord blessed me with many precious jewels.  Here is one:  "One of the first lessons a child needs to learn is the lesson of obedience."  Yes, quietness, cleanliness, helpfulness, and other Christian virtues are important, but the Lord reminded me to start with obedience.  If our children make obedience a habit, all these other things will be added.  By the grace of God, as I focused on encouraging Samuel to obey life became a little less complicated for me and I wasn't as overwhelmed with my responsibilities.

These songs were written to encourage quick and cheerful obedience.  May God bless you as you share them with your precious children and encourage them in paths of righteousness.
